Engine
Proven performance: the PowerTech M 4.5 l diesel.

Like everything else on the new 5 Series, the legendary PowerTech M 4.5 l diesel is purpose-built for outstanding reliability and durability.
It’s easy to service, runs for 500 hours between oil changes and with its Tier III emissions rating and new features, it's more efficient than ever before.
When the going gets tough …
Next time heavy duty work like hauling or ploughing slows your engine down, relax! The PowerTech M delivers constant power across a range of 500 rpm and the maximum torque is up to 365 Nm (Model 5090G). With a reserve of up to 30%, you’ll have all the pulling power you need.

TIER III emission rating
The new PowerTech M engines meet TIER III emissions regulations using mechanical controls for optimal performance. The mechanical injection system generates high injection pressures to improve combustion efficiency and satisfy customers demand for a powerful, fuel efficient tractor.

Turbocharger
All 5G Series tractors feature a new turbocharger to increase both engine power and torque. All engines have a high exhaust gas velocity in their short exhaust manifold system and achieve the best performance with a single channel turbocharger.

Charge air cooler
The charge air cooler lowers the air intake temperatures by between 40% to 50% to provide denser air with more oxygen to the cylinder for cleaner more efficient combustion.

Proven John Deere piston spray cooling, wet cylinder liners, closed cooling and viscous fan systems equals maximum performance, reliability and lifetime value retention.
Cool!
Meeting emissions regulations with high quality performance requires a very efficient cooling system. The 5G series with its PowerTech M engines, efficiently achieve this goal where excellent heat dissipation promotes an optimised and complete combustion.

Positive cooling
The temperature of the air passing through the radiator regulates the variable viscous fan drive speed. During heavy field work at low ambient temperatures, the slower the running viscous fan drive allows additional usable power for higher field performance and saves fuel on longer working days in the fields.

Engine hood louvers
The engine hood has been redesigned to now include two top louvers and two side louvers. The two top louvers improve air flow into the cooling package while the two on the side quickly allow hot air to exit from the engine compartment.
Easy radiator access
The single piece hood opens for easy access to the super fine screens that protect the radiator. For fast and easy cleaning they can be pulled out to ensure a clean, smoothly running radiator even during dusty conditions.
